The planning system plays an important role in our lives. Effective land use is vital for the well being of the country. Planning is about delivering what people want: jobs, homes, lively city centres, better transport, and sensitive care for our historic buildings and the countryside.

Connecting councillors with strategic planning
applications: a good practice guide for London
As planning applications become more complicated, it is critical that
councillors become involved in them at an early stage. Greater certainty
and clarity in decision making benefits all, applicants, boroughs and
communities. This guidance brings together those practices in London
considered to be working well. It is aimed primarily at borough heads of
planning, solicitors and relevant councillors and is designed to help
boroughs increase the role of councillors prior to formal decision making.
